Hartford Plant Company — Branding Photography
Assignment: Hartford Plant Company, a microgreen growing company based out of Hartford, Connecticut, contacted me over the summer in need of updated branding photography for use on their new website. Their story is an interesting one: “Valentina, who is the principal microgreen grower, needed to leave Belarus in late 2020, affected by the tragic political circumstances in her country. Shortly after joining her daughter and son-in-law, Anastasiya and Matt, in West Hartford, she began passing her time propagating begonias and cultivating an ever-growing collection of plants and flowers around their home.” They now sell their microgreens to restaurants throughout West Hartford, Glastonbury, and Hartford, and at the West Hartford Farmers’ Market. This year they expanded and grow their products out of their new commercial kitchen in the Swift Factory, located near Keney Park in Hartford.
Concept: The client needed high definition macro photographs of the microgreens that would clearly differentiate one plant from another. They also needed interior photographs of their commercial kitchen, and portraits of the three owners. We decided to do environmental portraits of Valentina, Anastasiya and Matt, with their growing space as the background. It provided interesting texture and color, and tied in the green color scheme.
End Use: Their brand-new website now shines with the images sprinkled throughout. The images allow their customers to clearly see the details of the microgreens, and envision the products they will purchase. The portraits visually weave the story of the owners into their website, and allow viewers to understand exactly who they are buying from — local, honest people.
