Henry Provisions

Family, food, and wine are all important to me, especially when you can combine them all through quality time spent together. So when Jacob contacted me to photograph & make a short video for Henry Provisions, I was ecstatic.

Jacob is the owner of Henry Provisions and The Wise Old Dog and was put in touch with me through Jason Chesire from Go.  I know Jason from our work together as board members of CADC and ASMP. Jason recommended me for my light, bright, and natural approach to food & lifestyle photography.

Henry Provisions is a quarterly subscription service that delivers families “the hardware, dry goods, recipes, the roadmap, the history, some special wine and a fresh grocery list.” They believe in providing all these elements so that families can slow down together and enjoy a regionally custom-tailored experience. Unlike huge national brand subscription boxes that pride themselves in quick & easy dinners, Henry Provisions is locally owned. All the recipes are seasonally curated so customers can use the best locally available fresh ingredients. The wine is from Wise Old Dog; adding to the local and small business ethos of the company.

Jacob named Henry Provisions after his son Henry, who was an absolute delight! Working with children who are not professional models or actors can be a potential challenge because they typically have shorter attention spans, but Henry was a natural and so sweet. I was impressed with how easy it was to capture authentic moments of him. Henry is a very mature, well behaved little boy with an engagement and curiosity about our shoot which made the day run smoothly and even more fun. Jacob’s wife was equally delightful to work with, and we immediately connected on the photoshoot.

Jacob & his family were my main collaborators on this photo & video shoot. Together, Jacob and I did the food styling. We went in with the intent to balance an authentic portrayal with clean and simple touches. We worked at their family home and it was the perfect backdrop: from cutting veggies inside, to grilling and setting up a beautiful outdoor dinner table.

Because of Jacob’s belief in providing you with the tools to empower families to have these meaningful experiences, I knew we equally needed to highlight the food and the interactions between the family. The love, joy, and delight the family took in making this meal together was so easy to capture.

Since our shoot, Jacob now uses the photographs & video I created on his websites and social media. Check out the images and video in action here:

This article brought me back to when I was younger growing up in a rather large family of nine. We cook fresh everyday and bought our meat from the local butcher. The milkman would deliver our dairy as well. Most days it was the girls who prepared our daily meals as my mother was employed outside the home. We absolutely loved cooking together. Saturday & Sundays were left for my mom to do the cooking. Great family time at the table. ReplyCancel
