A Creative Collaboration: Dumais Made and CT Branding Photography

Inside the Studio with Dumais Made: Photographing Connecticut’s Handcrafted Ceramics for a Shared Artistic Vision featured in May/June 2025 issue of Condé Nast Traveler

There’s something truly special about working with fellow artists, people who see the world in texture, light, and color, and who care deeply about their craft. That’s exactly what it’s like collaborating with Charlie and Kevin Dumais, founders of Dumais Made, a Connecticut-based ceramics studio known for their handcrafted lamps, sculptural objects, and custom furniture.

As a commercial and branding photographer, I’m always seeking out projects where there’s a shared creative vision. My work with Dumais Made has been one of those unicorn collaborations that feels effortless…where design, artistry, and storytelling align.

Founded in 2017, Dumais Made is rooted in the idea that every object has a story. Each lamp or piece of furniture is handmade in their Bantam, CT studio and reflects the personalities, inspirations, and even moods of the artisans who bring them to life

When I photograph the Dumais Made studio, I’m not just documenting a space, I’m telling the story of the artists behind the work. From soft natural light pouring over hand-thrown ceramics to carefully composed product shots that highlight texture and form, every frame is a collaboration between our perspectives. Kevin and Charlie are both deeply involved in the creative process, from the styling to lighting, which makes for a dynamic and thoughtful process every time.

It’s been an honor to see our work together featured in the May/June 2025 issue of Condé Nast Traveler, showcasing Dumais Made and other design-forward creatives in Litchfield, CT. Two of my photographs accompany the article, which celebrates the area’s resurgence as a hub for modernist design and creative energy. The feature highlights the Dumais Made studio, located in the historic Bantam Arts Factory, and paints a beautiful picture of their ethos: doing honest, intentional work in a beautiful place.

Whether I’m photographing branding content, interiors, or portraits, I always return to the idea of connection…between people, place, and purpose. Collaborating with Dumais Made reminds me why I love what I do. It’s not just about getting the image, it’s about telling a story.

If you’re a designer, artist, or creative business looking to bring your vision to life through photography, I’d love to connect.
