Crafting Ambiance: Inside Dumais Made’s Refined Aesthetic at the Litchfield Country Club

Based in the heart of Litchfield, Connecticut, Dumais Made is a haven for creators, specializing in handmade lamps, objects, and accessories. Founded by the visionary duo, Charlie and Kevin Dumais, in 2017, the studio has blossomed into a testament to craftsmanship and artistry. 

For this particular assignment, we stepped out of the familiar Dumais studio setting and into the refined ambiance of the Litchfield Country Club. Tasked with capturing the essence of Dumais Made’s custom lighting installations within the club’s renovated spaces, I faced the challenge of harmonizing natural light with my own beautiful constructed light using my Profoto B1’s and light modifiers.

Balancing ambient light with artificial illumination proved to be a delicate dance, requiring careful consideration of exposure settings and composition. From the soft glow of table lamps to the sculptural presence of pendant fixtures, every photograph aimed to convey a sense of refinement and sophistication.

These photographs serve as a visual testament to the harmonious marriage of craftsmanship and ambiance, offering viewers a glimpse into a world where artistry and innovation define the atmosphere.

I am reminded once again of the transformative power of photography to evoke emotion, capture the true look and feel of a space, and celebrate the artistry that surrounds us.
